 Scottish Universities Dryslope Championships
The Scottish Universities Dryslope Championships is the premier event for every University Snowsports club in Scotland. Better known as SUDS, the event is a chance for the best ski and snowboard talent in Scotland to come together and represent their club, by competing in racing or freestyle events throughout the day and evening.
This year sees a new committee in charge, the Scottish University Snowsports Committee (SUSC). They promise to make SUDS 08 bigger and better than ever before. With some new, big name sponsors, such as SNO!zone, plans to take part of the event offsite for a rail jam, and an after party like none before it, this is definitely one not to be missed! The date is set for Saturday 18th October 2008 and begins at 9am at Midlothian Snowsports Centre, or Hillend, as it is known to most. The day consists of 2 areas of expertise, freestyle and racing, both open to male and female competitors, skier and snowboarder alike. There is also entertainment on the hill, including, live music from JD Pyz, (and other guests) and an onsite bar, provided by the event sponsor Student Recommended. For the first time ever, the slopestyle finals will be hosted in the city centre at Bristo Square. Not just the finalists showdown, but a demo show from some of the best pro and semi-pro riders around will kick off from 7pm. Armed with over 20 tons of snow from SNO!zone, the stair set will be covered, features will be set up and the crowd will be amazed. With live music lined up for this venue, and the stunning backdrop of the McEwan Hall, this is guaranteed to get people psyched for the after party. The official SUDS after party is being held upstairs at 3 Sisters in the Cowgate from 9pm. Featuring a mix of live punk, original sounds, DJs and MCs, there’ll be something to suit everyone. The prizegiving will feature for the first time, an overall Champion University, drawn from all the results during the day. The afterparty pass includes free entry to Faith for an epic end of night.
