Snowboard UK Magazine suspended
Posted Tuesday 30th June 2009, 9:46 pm by Dunx

Mark McGettigan, who was the editor of Snowboard UK Magazine, has contacted us this evening to say that Freestyle Publications today officially suspended the magazine. All the editorial staff were made redundant this morning.

Mark Nuttal, owner of Freestyle Publications added it's just a harsh reality of current times and said the whole company has ceased trading. He is hoping that SUK will continue this season and is working hard to find the right backing.

Launched in 1991, Snowboard UK was the UK's longest running snowboard magazine and had a readership of over 68,000. Freestyle Publications other titles include Boys Toys, Koi Carp and Paddles.

Nikita photoshoot winners
Posted Friday 17th April 2009, 12:17 pm by Dunx

Following a heap of entries from girls in the most recent Nikita Photoshoot Contest we have hand-picked two girls to fly to Miami with the Nikita crew and forever be a part of the Spring Summer 2010 Nikita streetwear look book.

Congratulations and a big thanks should go to all the girls that participated (we’re still receiving entries!), but the winners have been chosen and they are Ana Pereira from Portugal and Lucie Klecková from the Czech Republic.

Ana lives in Braga, Portugal and loves to live life to the max. She travels a lot which she says is like an addiction, getting to know different places and cultures. In winter she heads to Andorra to snowboard and meantime keeps the night time alive by partying! During summer she takes full advantage of the local surf and hangs out at the beach with her friends.

Lucie, 19 years of age sent her entry in one day before the deadline on 14 April. Like Ana, she sent in some great photos, including looks that are really natural showing her bright blue eyes, a fun surf picture and a killer shot of her in a bikini.

Both girls have been contacted, are super excited about winning and can’t wait to join the photoshoot. So after being whisked off on their trip to Miami at the beginning of May for some hard days shooting and of course plenty of fun, there’ll be some sweet pictures to show for it.

Kodak Snow Stories website
Posted Wednesday 1st April 2009, 6:16 pm by Dunx

To promote their new snow-themed website Snow Stories (http://snowstories.kodak.com) and their new ski resort mobile application, camera giants Kodak are offering snow lovers the chance to win top snow and camera equipment prizes.

Snow Stories is Kodak’s funky new web portal for all things winter and snow. As well as offering users the chance to upload their own content (in the form of video or pictorial ‘Snow Stories), the site features a brilliant Snow Insider guide to 40 of Europe’s best resorts. The guides were put together by top snow journalist Matt Barr, author of Footprint’s acclaimed Snowboarding The World and Skiing Europe guidebooks, and includes the inside line on the continent’s best places to go shredding. As well as resort overviews, there are concise guides to the best runs and the best bars to check out once the lifts are closed. Just what you’d expect from the author of snow guides acclaimed by the Observer as ‘invaluable’.

Even better, the site lets user download the info directly to their mobile phone, meaning you can have the information you need at your fingertips from the moment you arrive in resort. Becoming a local in your resort of choice just got a lot simpler.

As if that wasn’t enough, Kodak are also offering visitors to the site the opportunity to win some brilliant prizes, including snow equipment and Kodak cameras. Head to the site and add your own story from whenever you were last in the mountains, and the best ones will be in with a chance of winning. Visit snowstories.kodak.com for more information.

Classic Oakley Jib-Vid
Posted Tuesday 31st March 2009, 4:04 pm by Dunx

Another epic Oakley Jib-Vid crowns the 2009 winners; the O’Neill / Isenseven team of Fredrik Evenson, Andre Kuhlmann and Alex Schiller. Their incredible film “Technical Difficulties 2.0” was judged as the overall winner out of the 17 amazing Jib-Vids that the teams created over just 28 hours. Featuring incredible riding and filming as well as the editing that also claimed them the “best editing” award; the team really deserved the 5,000 euro prize; along with an Xbox 360 each and a special pair of engraved Oakley goggles each.

With some amazing luck; Mayrhofen was besieged by snow throughout the night before the official start of the event, with the weather clearing throughout the morning creating a beautiful bluebird day. The riders were spoilt for choice with the Vans Penken Park in great shape, including specially-built Oakley Jib-Vid features, and a huge amount of backcountry to choose from as well.

The competition was incredibly tight this year with just 7 points separating the top 8 teams in the initial judging period. The top 5 teams from this period were announced after a short break; and re-shown for the teams and judges to make their final decisions and reveal the eventual winners as the O’Neill / Isenseven Team.

Watch the video on the Jib-Vid site here: www.jib-vid.com/index.php?url=/videos

Posted Friday 13th March 2009, 1:40 pm by Dunx

This year the Oakley Jib-Vid received a record number of team entries (38 in total) and all of an incredibly high standard. Broken Thumbs and Mountain Stories in TSA
Posted Friday 19th December 2008, 12:23 pm by Dunx

Get down to a Snowboard Asylum store and pick up your free copies of this year’s TSA films, be fast though as it’s a limited pressing and when they’re gone that’s it.

Just like last season we are bringing you not one but two films, Mountain Stories and This Is Britain 2 - Broken Thumbs Tour.

Mountain Stories was a snowboard film competition where riders and film crews got together to tell us tales of UK riding from around the globe. 10 films made it onto the dvd with teams headed up by Johno Verity, Adam Gendle, Neil McNab and Mike Austin to name a few. Each short film is totally unique, showcasing both snowboarder and film makers personality, style and even in some cases, comedy value.

This Is Britain 2 was filmed over the summer of 2008. A four man crew of UK snowboarders and film makers packed up a van a headed out on an ambitious tour of the UK to document the British snowboard scene. Without a mountain in sight pro riders and local heroes got together and showed us just how good home grown UK riding really is.

Both DVDs are available now and for FREE so what you waiting for.

Find your local store at www.snowboard-asylum.com/stores.htm
